Profusion Patterned Dichro Glass

Profusion Studios Patterned dichroic glass starts by using only CBS (Coatings By Sandberg) coated glass. Precision patterns are individually etched utilizing a method that prevents surface abrasion, allowing the glass to remain in its pristine condition throughout the firing cycle. (Sandblasting or laser etching techniques potentially damage the glass surface, adversely affecting the integrity of the finished product). Each piece is then individually packaged to assure its safe arrival at your studio.

Over 80 dichroic color / pattern combinations are available in either 90 or 96 COE.

Note on Rainbow 2 Coatings from CBS:

In the highly-scientific world of Dichroic glass, the Rainbow 2 is the most difficult to produce. On occasion, slight peeling/flaking of the coating during the fusing, lampworking and/or glass blowing process can take place. This is usually isolated at the gold edge of the Rainbow 2 sheet only.

In the art community, this peeling/flaking of the Rainbow 2 is a generally known fact and many fusers test fire a strip from the gold reflected edge of the sheet to ensure the coatings are stable and to determine proper color shifts. Artists that use the Rainbow 2 may fully encase the Dichroic or fuse a clear cap over the Dichroic which solves any peeling/flaking problems.

CBS also manufactures a Rainbow 2 Plus coating with an extra layer that helps bond the durable coating even further thus reducing the chance of flaking even more. It is more expensive. Rainbow 2 Plus coatings are available as a special order. Just call.
